SOUTHERN ICeLAND Tour

Northern Lights Viewing

Breakfast Daily

Grab your passport and accompany Nomad Crusades in October 2021 for an international adventure to one of the youngest landmasses on Earth—approximately 25 million years old. Depart from your local airport on an overnight flight for a morning check-in to your Reykjavík accommodations. After a day of taking in the sights, smells, and tastes of the city, tour Iceland’s famous Golden Circle followed by a relaxing visit to local geothermal baths. Be sure to bring your camera as we cruise into the darkness to witness the much-acclaimed viewing of the northern lights. For the adventurers, ice and lava caving, glacier hiking, and scuba diving between tectonic plates await you; while those travelers looking to take things a bit easier can visit the National Parks, walk the black sand beaches, and witness the tectonic plates from the dry side of Earth’s surface. With seven days to indulge in all Iceland has to offer, there will never be a dull moment!

Iceland Itinerary

DAY 1: WEDNESDAY

Good morning and verið velkomin til Íslands (welcome to Iceland)! Use the airport transfer service information from your confirmation to take public transportation to Reykjavík. Once you have arrived in the city and check-in, the remainder of your day is open for your own activities. For a very Icelandic way to shake off the jetlag, I suggest a visit to one of the local geothermal pools! You might also explore Old Town Reykjavík, a prime location for charming buildings, cafes and museums, or a walk to the nearby Pearl attraction for a great view overlooking the city.

DAY 2: THURSDAY

Start the morning with a Scandinavian buffet breakfast, included as part of your hotel stay. The day and evening open for your own activities. Perhaps you'll want to take on a different side of Iceland with an adventurous visit to the South Shore, or there are also many rewarding experiences like hiking, snowmobiling, caving and snorkeling.

Reykjavík Walking Tour (Included)

This afternoon, spend some time with a few tour guides on a city walking tour. Focus on the general history of Iceland and the evolution of Reykjavík as a town. Not only will you find out funny facts about Iceland and the places you must see in Reykjavík, you’ll also learn about elves, vikings, food, nightlife, music, economic aspects and political affairs.

Optional: Icelandic Traditional Food Tour

Join Nomad Crusades on this evening guided walking tour that takes you to a multitude of eateries around the capital, including the city's oldest restaurant. Learn about Iceland's culinary history and traditions as you sample over 10 dishes such as Icelandic meat soup, skyr, and lobster soup.

DAY 3: FRIDAY

Explore the world of glaciers at the Perlan Museum Glacier and Ice Cave Exhibition in Reykjavík. Enter the museum for a guided tour of the world’s only indoor ice cave, learning about glaciers' secrets and uncertain future from your guide as you explore the frozen tunnel. Then, experience the multimedia displays on glaciers with the provided digital guides; admire the 360-degree views over Reykjavík from the observation deck; and enjoy the café and gift shop.

Southern Iceland Tour (Included)

This tour of the Golden Circle is a wonderful combination of scenic natural wonders, history, and relaxation. Depart from Reykjavík in the morning and venture into Iceland’s starkly beautiful interior of rugged peaks, pastures and volcanic plains. Take in panoramic views of the plant that harnesses the area’s natural propensity for generating power, and hear how it produces renewable energy for more than half of Reykjavík's population. Stop by at Thingvellir National Park, a region of untouched beauty steeped in ancient history. Learn how it’s home to the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly, the Althingi, that began in 930, and see the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other over a narrow valley. Continue to the Gullfoss waterfall and marvel at the double-tiered falls; with luck, catch sight of one of the famous rainbows that forms in the mists. Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 meters) in the air.

Northern Lights by Boat (Included)

After completion of the tour, your afternoon return to Reykjavík will afford you the opportunity to rest and prepare for the Northern Lights hunt in the evening. With this unique tour you have the opportunity to experience them at sea, away from the city lights! You'll depart from Reykjavík harbor, sailing out to see the aurora borealis under the dark night of the North Atlantic ocean with the beautiful mountains and the glow of the night skyline in the background. On your way out, your tour guide will provide background on the natural phenomena, its surrounding folklore and superstition, as well as explaining the underlying scientific facts that make this magical light show possible. The tour boat is ideally designed for sightseeing cruises, with excellent viewing areas on the outside decks, and a warm and cozy seating area inside if you get too cold.

DAY 4: SATURDAY

Explore the city like a local on this full day in the city. Take a hike up Mount Esja for some beautiful scenic views. A few hours and 900m will afford you some amazing views of the city and surrounding area. Into more of a slower paced activity? Visit the botanical gardens, home to over 5,000 plant species. Or, rent a bicycle at Iceland Bike and tour the gorgeous coastline. Some great stops along the way are the Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach and the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula.

DAY 5: SUNDAY

Optional: South Coast Tour

Make your day in Reykjavík special with a full day tour of the South Coast. Travel by luxury minibus through a volcanic landscape along the south coast of Iceland. See the magnificent waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the black-sand beaches of Reynisfjara, and the breathtaking Sólheimajökull glacier on this day trip from Reykjavík. Spot puffins, if you’re lucky, and get a look at Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which erupted in 2010.

DAY 5: MONDAY

Optional: Western Iceland Tour

On this tour you will see Deildartunguhver hot spring, which provides hot water for several towns; the Krauma baths, ideal for a relaxing soak amidst beautiful surroundings, along with the Hraunfossar and the Barnafoss waterfalls, spectacular and unique cascading places of genuine natural beauty, before finally visiting Reykholt, the home of the legendary Icelandic scholar and politician, Snorri Sturluson. This means that the Silver Circle tour has many amazing sights that cater to every taste, providing off-the-beaten-track memories. It is a rich blend of nature and history, perfect for anyone who wants to experience all the magic that the land of fire and ice has to offer.

DAY 5: TUESDAY

Head out for one final morning in the city, which is open for your own activities. Then, transfer to Keflavik airport for your departure to North America.
